Is it really less expensive to hire internally?
There has been a trend in the legal recruiting market place to hire internally by placing an advertisement on a firm's website or internal research and direct applications. This practice should NOT be discouraged; it can result in successful lateral moves. However, a combination of internal efforts coupled with a hands-on, focused recruiter will produce the ideal lateral candidate. Talking with a number of the firms that have used this approach, they have found that screening candidates and conducting an effective internal search is not as inexpensive as they had first thought.
For every qualified candidate, there seems to be hundreds that are not. The process of "weeding out" the good from the average, or simply completely unsuitable, can seem daunting and can become very time consuming.
A good recruiter FILTERS through large numbers of candidates so that the client doesn't have to. The qualifying process I use makes sure that every candidate that interviews with you is pre-qualified professionally and culturally.
